Sonora Slocum maintains a thriving and successful private teaching studio, online and in-person. Slocum has conducted master classes at the Curtis Institute of Music, Eastman School of Music, NFA Orchestral Audition Masterclass, Northwestern University, DePaul University, Montclair State University, New Jersey City University, East Tennessee State University, Wisconsin Youth Symphony, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the Umoja Institute. Slocum has served as a faculty member of the Curtis Mentor Network, the Curtis Young Artist Summer Program, and the NYO-USA and NYO 2 Carnegie Hall Youth Orchestras.

Ms. Slocum taught privately as an assistant to New York Philharmonic principal flutist Robert Langevin at the Orford Arts Center. She also served as a private teacher at the Manhattan School of Music (MSM) Summer Camp and was a teaching assistant at the Amateur Chamber Music Festival at MSM.  

Ms. Slocum's teaching emphasizes fundamentals, creative problem solving, ergonomically healthy body/instrument alignment, mental focus and a direct positive approach. She has given masterclasses in New York and Milwaukee and has presented interactive educational concerts for K-12 schools and senior centers in the Philadelphia and Milwaukee areas.
